Saturday, April 16th:

9:30 – 10:30am: Trailside Stories Hike to a special location each week for a story in the wood!  Stories will come alive in the meadow, under the trees, and beside the brook!  Families with children up to age 8.  $6 per person. ~ Mystic

10am: Golf Fest Join us at The Golf Center for a fun family day filled with golf activities, games and more! A fun and free introductory golf experience for golfers of all ages! The goal of the day is to have fun playing a variety of games and challenges, while showcasing all the different ways your child can enjoy the game of a lifetime. Meet our staff and learn about the different programs available for you and your family. We will have something fore everyone! Bridieball, a revolutionary limited flight practice golf ball, is a fun golf activity for the whole family!. Golfaroo is a large inflatable kangaroo target system into which you can hit full swing. ~ Middlefield

10 – 11:30am: Saturday Morning Hike It’s a great day to get outside!  Join us for an interpretive trail walk through the forests and fields. A knowledgeable DPNC educator will point out seasonal plants and animals. Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and bring a water bottle. Adults and older children. Meet in commuter parking lot off Poheganut Drive. Difficult terrain, medium pace. $10  per nonmember. ~ Mystic

10am – 12pm: Family Fresh Water Fishing Class The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Fisheries Division sponsors this terrific free program. Families and individuals age nine and up are welcome to attend this unique event which is part of the DEEP’s CARE (Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education) program. The class is taught by certified volunteer instructors and it’s fun! All fishing tackle and course materials are provided absolutely free! Pre-registration is required. Free but donations will be accepted to help defray the Conservation Center’s programming expenses. ~ Litchfield

10am – 2pm: Spring Apple Hunt Join us for a one-of-a-kind Family Fun! Get ready for Connecticut’s one and only Spring Apple Hunt! Search for thousands of Lyman’s own eco-certified apples in a Hay Maze! Enjoy a free Magic Show, with The Magic of Christopher! Get your face painted! Children ages 1 to 10 years old are invited to participate in the Apple Hunt. Every child participating in the Hunt receives a special edition 275th Anniversary Spring Apple Hunt T-shirt!  Please select your shirt sizes when you purchase your tickets online.  You will receive your free T-shirt(s) at the check-in table. Additional fun activities of the day include Pony Rides for children provided by Tara Farm Rescue and Horse-drawn Wagon Rides for the whole family, provided by Foxglove Farm. 11am: Julius LaGrossa Bogbeast Puppet Event Come for a monster story and meet special puppet guest Julius LaGrossa. He is a Bogbeast who likes to tell jokes and meet little folks. It will be a fun-filled time for all.

11am: Don’t Touch This Book Storytime Larry the lovable monster from Don’t Push the Button! is back with another hilarious, interactive adventure! I know what you’re thinking: this is a pretty cool-looking book. But… Don’t Touch This Book (Don’t even try it.) Join us for Storytime featuring Don’t Touch This Book! 11am – 3pm: Creative Classes Open House Learn about upcoming classes and events, meet our talented instructors, take advantage of a special deal, and register early for Camp Creativity. ~ Michaels St♥res

1 – 2pm: Coogan Farm Tour & Work Day There is a lot going on at the Coogan Farm these days! This year will mark the grand opening of the renovated Coogan Farm, and the DPNC is excited to start this new chapter in our history. A natural greenway connects the DPNC to its new property at the Coogan Farm, providing valuable habitat for a variety of wildlife. The farm features hiking trails, as well as the Giving Garden, where sustainable agriculture is growing delicious produce for the United Way. Stop by to meet the Coogan Farm Manager, Craig Floyd, and his group of hard working volunteers. Come for as little or as long as you’d like! You’re welcome to walk around on your own to explore the property, join a guided tour to learn more about our many programs and activities, and/or lend your hands to the gardening project of the day. 2 – 7:30pm: Master Class & Film Screening of Seymour: An Introduction NMS is delighted to host pianist, teacher, composer, author, documentary star and Seymour Bernstein for a Master Class featuring three advanced NMS students, and a viewing of the inspiring and insightful documentary Seymour: An Introduction, a film by Ethan Hawke. The film explores ever-charming Bernstein’s remarkable life through the telling of heartwarming stories and the sharing of insightful reflections on creativity, art and the pursuit of a fulfilling life. A Q&A will follow the screening. This program is open to the public and appropriate for ages 12 and up. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged. Light snacks will be served before the film. 5:30 – 8:30pm: Nature Night Out Have a grown-up night out and let the children have a night out with nature.  Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable educators will provide a fun, educational and entertaining program!  Enjoy games, team building activities, exhibit exploration, a night hike, and lots of fun! We provide dinner and s’mores around the fire.  Dress in warm layers and bring a flashlight. Ages 5-12. Non-member child per class: $30, Additional non-member child per class: $15. ~ Mystic

Sunday, April 17th:

12 – 2:30pm: Mommy & Me: Breakfast Treats Teaching your child how to cook can be fun … especially if you have some help from the staff at Chef’s Emporium.  We will do the shopping, cleanup, and lead the class while you and your child work within groups to create four delicious and unique breakfast and brunch recipes. Mommy & Me: Breakfast Treats will be a fun, hands-on cooking class that will help create a delicious memory for you and your child.  We will learn to use a kids’ favorite (spaghetti) and create an omelet with it that kids and adults will love.  We will also prepare three more treats for all ages … Very Berry Smoothies, Chewy Granola Bars, and SuperHero Muffins that utilize “superhero” ingredients to keep all happy and healthy.  Don’t miss this opportunity to share your passion for great food with your child while enjoying time together. 1pm: Chicken Dance ArtsPower’s newest musical portrays the colorful story of Marge and Lola, two barnyard chickens on a mission to win the barnyard talent contest first prize of two tickets to see the great Elvis Poultry in concert! But first, they must present a performance that will score higher than a flock of very talented ducks who seem to have the contest locked up. Can Marge and Lola face their challengers, against all odds, and win the talent contest? Grades: K – 2. Performance: 55 minutes. ~ ♥ld Saybr♥♥k

1 – 2:30pm: Hike the Stone Bridges Trail We are celebrating our 70th year of environmental education! Join us as we revisit some of the trails that helped start it all. Over the course of the year, we will visit the trails at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center & Coogan Farm, as well as the properties that we have helped preserve – Barn Island, and manage – the Manatuck Preserve, the Peace Sanctuary. This mile long trail runs from Mistuxet Avenue to Coogan Boulevard, connecting with the Denison Farm Trail. It crosses old stone bridges and an abandoned quarry pond and traverses Avalonia Land Trust, Denison Homestead, and Mystic Marinelife Aquarium properties.  Free. ~ Mystic

1 – 3pm: Macroinvertebrate Study Do you know what pH stands for? Do you know where nitrates come from? Join us for an in-depth look at the health of our pond. We will use chemical tests to determine the pH, nitrate levels and phosphate levels in the water. We will also use nets to capture macroinvertebrates, study them under the microscopes, and use them as bioindicators for the health of our pond. Adults only. $12 per person. ~ Mystic

1 – 3pm: Introduction to Hardware: Myth Busting Build a computer on the cheap, What’s inside a Game Haven PC?, What’s going on in the computer industry?, Save money by going green! Classes are (2) hours long with a (15) minute break for lunch. Admission includes pizza and drinks. $35 per participant or $50 for parent/child duo. ~ New Haven
