Summer Happenings

Below we have highlighted some fun summer events that reoccur but have an expiration date, get them while they are hot.

Mondays:

Mondays (until 9/12) at 6pm: Cruise Night Every Monday evening, Classic Hits 98.7 WNLC sponsors Ocean Beach Park’s “Cruise Night”  show Enjoy a parade of antique cars and other interesting vehicles and the sounds of a Live DJ spinning  classic music. Parking and admission is free. Ocean Beach Park, New London.

Mondays (until 8/3) from 6 – 8pm: Blues Monday Please join us for Blues Monday and enjoy some great music in a family setting on the Mystic River. Items for our food pantry are being accepted. Rain or shine. Rain location: Mystic German Club. Mystic River Park, Mystic.

Tuesdays – Wednesdays:

Tuesdays – Wednesdays at 9:30am: Free Summer Movies Free admission with two movies to choose from each day. Marquee Cinemas, Westbrook.

Tuesdays – Wednesdays (until 8/19) at 10am: Free Summer Movies Bowtie Cinemas offers free movies for kids. Seating limited to theatre capacity, tickets issued on a first come, first serve basis. Free for kids. Select Bowtie Cinemas.

Tuesdays – Wednesdays at 10am: Summer Movie Express Admission to the Summer Movie Express is only $1. Tickets available for purchase at the box office and all movies start at 10am and are rated G or PG. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute. Select Regal Cinemas.

Tuesdays:

Tuesdays (until 8/11) from 9 – 11am: Character Breakfasts Bring the little ones in on Tuesdays, July 14th to August 11th from 9am to 11am so they can meet, talk to, and have pictures taken with some of their favorite characters! This has become a popular event so we recommend making reservations although they are not required. My Place, Newtown.

Tuesdays (until 8/4) at 10amKids Club: Powered by Nat Geo Kids The Danbury Fair Kids Club is a great opportunity for your child to learn in a fun, and interactive setting. We’ve teamed up with National Geographic Kids to create activities and games that focus on discovery through play. 7/14: Featuring the fabulous Conroy Warren and limbo on over and be a part of Conroy’s band. Sparkles the clown with exotic face painting and design your very own summer visor. Danbury Fair Mall, Danbury.

Tuesdays (until 8/4) at 12pm: Summer Jam Children’s Concert Series Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs, picnic lunch and your friends for a fun and toe-tapping good time! Concerts are free of charge. Concerts are for ages 099, all are welcome! Newtown, CT

Tuesdays (until 8/11) at 12pm: Summer Tunes Grab your lunch and a blanket and join us for concerts at Old Mine Park, Upper Pavilion, at 12 noon. All music is geared toward children ages one to ten. Participation will be encouraged. Old Mine Ruins, Trumbull.

Tuesdays (until 8/27) at 7pm: CHIRP Concert Happenings in Ridgefield’s Parks at Ballard Park in Ridgefield.

Tuesdays (until 9/1) at 7pm: Summer Sounds at Harborpark Rain location: South Church. Harborpark, Middletown.

Tuesdays (until 8/25) at 7pm: Summer Sunset Concerts at the Paradise Green in Stratford.

Tuesdays (until 8/28) from 7 – 9:30pm: Open Mic Night House band will provide back up, key board and percussion instruments if needed. Anyone interested in performing must sign up early that evening. Spots fill quickly. Bring a blanket/chair and join the fun! Freese Park, Norwalk.

Tuesdays (until 8/18) at sundown: Beach Blanket Movie Every Tuesday evening enjoy a free movie in the open night air from the comfort of your beach blanket. Our normal parking charge is always in effect and only $6 on weeknights. Ocean Beach Park, New London.

Tuesdays (until 8/25) at sundown: Movie Under the Stars The Madison Beach Hotel is hosting a complimentary summer-long weekly film festival for the whole family to enjoy! Each Tuesday, Madison Beach Hotel welcomes you and your family to come by and enjoy a featured film while underneath the starlit sky on Madison Beach’s lawn. Madison Beach Hotel recommends  bringing blankets for seating. Madison Beach Hotel, Madison.

Wednesdays – Fridays:

Wednesdays – Fridays (until 8/7) from 9 – 10:30am: Interactive Storytelling Join us at Apple Camp for three-day workshops where kids ages 8 to 12 bring their imaginations to life. They’ll learn to make movies or create interactive books complete with their own illustrations and sound effects. And each workshop ends with the Apple Camp Showcase so campers can share their finished projects. Register online. Space is limited. Apple Stores.

Wednesdays – Fridays (until 8/7) from 11am – 12:30pm: Stories in Motion Join us at Apple Camp for three-day workshops where kids ages 8 to 12 bring their imaginations to life. They’ll learn to make movies or create interactive books complete with their own illustrations and sound effects. And each workshop ends with the Apple Camp Showcase so campers can share their finished projects. Bring a digital camera or digital video camera if you’re coming to the Stories in Motion with iMovie workshop. If you don’t have your own, we can provide one. Register online. Space is limited. Wednesdays:

Wednesdays (until 8/5) at 10am: Peanut Butter Jam Concerts Kids will enjoy interactive musical, foot stompin’ performances on the Sherman Green every Wednesday this summer. Pack a picnic and journey down for a children’s musical celebration! Fairfield, CT

Wednesdays at 10:30am: SOB Kids Day Every Wednesday children ages 410 are invited to take part in a crafting activity. Ocean Beach Park, New London.

Wednesdays (until 8/19) from 11:30am – 12:30pm: Storytime at Cheshire Park Meet us at the Cheshire Park this summer for a special program in the park! Bring your lunch and we will read stories and have fun with our parachute. Look for our Cheshire Public Library banner. If it’s raining, we will see you on the next sunny Wednesday! Cheshire Park, Cheshire.

Wednesdays (until 8/5) at 6pm: Summer Family Concert Series Take family and friends along to the playground and enjoy some children/family music from some wonderful artists. Feel free to pack a blanket along with a snack or dinner! Rain location is the Hamden Middle School auditorium. Larry’s Playground; Bassett Park, Hamden.

Wednesdays (until 8/12) from 6 – 8pm: Rock the Docks The event series features the Best Local Live Entertainment around to include Blues, Country, Today’s Hits, Rock and Swing! Bring your lawn chairs and sit back to watch the Norwich Waterfront come alive with sound for 6 Weeks on Wednesday starting in July! Howard Brown Park, Norwich.

Wednesdays (until 9/2) at 6:30pm: Summer Concert Series Kids Show: Curious Creatures Concert to follow. Raindate: Thursdays. Times and entertainment changes weekly. Calf Pasture, Norwalk.

Wednesdays (until 8/26) from 7 – 9pm: Music under the Stars The Huntington Green, Shelton.

Wednesdays (until 8/19) from 7:15 – 8:45pm: Summer Concert Series Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, Greenwich.

Wednesdays (until 8/26) at 7:30pm: Waveny Summer Concert Series Bring a chair or blanket, a picnic super and enjoy the music. Raindate: Thursdays. Waveny Park, New Canaan.

Thursdays – Sundays:

Thursdays – Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 4pm: Legally Blond the Musical A fabulously fun international award-winning musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances. Equal parts hilarious and heart-warming warming, this musical is so much fun it should be illegal! The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, New Canaan.

Thursdays – Saturdays at 8pm (until 8/8) and Sundays (until 8/2) at 2pm: Company It’s Bobby’s 35th birthday and you’re invited to celebrate! Company, based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, features a series vignettes that follows Robert (Erick Sanchez), a bachelor about to celebrate his 35th birthday, and the friends trying to convince him – and themselves – of the joys of marriage. Tickets $20 per person, $15 for students. Brookfield Theatre, Brookfield.

Thursdays:

Thursdays (until 8/13) at 5pm: Alive@Five Outdoor Summer Concert Series Adults $10, Kids 12 and under are free. Under 21 must enter before 7pm and cannot leave and re-enter. You must be 21 and older to get into the concert area after 7 pm. Hands will be marked for under 21. Photo ID is required. Rain or shine. Columbus Park, Stamford.

Thursdays (until 8/6) from 6 – 9pm: Summer Jazz Concert Series Join us for an evening of Jazz music on the picturesque town green. Bring your dinner or visit one of the local restaurants, sit back and enjoy! Town Green, Branford.

Thursdays at 6:30pm: Sock Hop DJ Bill Rinowski Bill always has lots of games with prizes as well as surprises for all kids. Our normal parking charge is always in effect and only $6 on weeknights. Ocean Beach Park, New London.

Thursdays (until 8/13) at 6:30pm: Summer Concerts Grab a blanket or some lawn chairs and bring your friends and family for an enjoyable evening with great music! Concerts are free of charge and everyone is invited! Dickinson Park Bandshell, Newtown.

Thursdays (until 8/27) at 7pm: CHIRP Concert Happenings in Ridgefield’s Parks Ballard Park, Ridgefield.

Thursdays (until 9/3) at 7pm: Summer Concert Series Matthews Park, Norwalk.

Fridays Sundays:

Fridays – Saturdays (until 8/29) at 7:15pm: Concerts on the Green Bring a chair(or rent one of ours) and a picnic and enjoy the show! Click here for more info on the weekly schedule. City Center, Danbury.

Fridays – Saturdays (until 8/8) at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm: An Evening of One-Acts Join us for an entertaining evening of favorites by established authors and local budding playwrights. It’s a limited-run event you won’t want to miss! Adults $18, children 10 and under $10. Town Players’ Little Theatre, Newtown.

Fridays:

Fridays (until 8/28): Free Fun Fridays offers visitors no cost admission to many of the most treasured cultural venues in Massachusetts. Museums include: The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Sandwich Glass Museum in Sandwich, Cape Code Museum of Art in Dennis, Garden in the Woods in Framingham, Wenham Museum in Wenham, American Textile History Museum in Lowell and the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst.

Fridays (until 8/14) from 6 – 8pm: Cocktails with the Whales Looking for fun after work? Chill out with the coolest crowd in town! Our Arctic Coast belugas play as you mingle to live music and savor our new signature drink and “on the fly” menu. Mystic Aquarium, Mystic.

Fridays (until 8/21) from 6 – 8pm (in July) and 5 – 7pm (in August): Summer Concert Series Town Green, Westbrook.

Fridays (until 8/21) from 6 – 9pm: UnWINEd Concert Series Enjoy live music, great wine, great food and the sunset in the vineyards. Picnics and dancing are welcome. Our 2015 Concert Season is complete, take a look and mark your calendars. $14 in advance, $16 the day of. Food available for purchase (cash only) by Mystic Oyster Company and Jessica’s Lobster Shack and others. Priam Vineyard, Colchester.

Fridays (until 8/28) from 6:30 – 8pm: Concerts in the Park Bring a chair or blanket and picnic in the park. Brookfield.

Fridays (until 8/14) at 7pm: Movies in the Park The movie will begin as soon as the sun sets. All Friday night films will either take place in a park or feature an outdoor recreational activity. Mill River Park, Stamford.

Fridays (until 8/28) at 7pm: Cabaret Night Rain location: blue tented pavilion. Calf Pasture Beach; Calfe Mu, Norwalk.

Fridays (until 8/28) from 7 – 9pm: Summer Music Series in Meriden.

Fridays (until 8/7) from 7 – 9pm: Summer Concert Series Surf Club, Madison.

Saturdays – Sundays:

Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 1pm: Charlotte’s Web Generations of children and parents have enjoyed the book Charlotte’s Web. In this theater for a young audience play we begin after a restless first night in the Zuckerman family barn, a wide-eyed young pig named Wilbur meets a witty and resourceful spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur learns through his fellow barnyard creatures of some unsettling plans for his future, Charlotte takes it upon her spinnerets and her trusty web to save him. This magical tale of what it means to be a good writer and a good friend features the much-loved characters created by E.B. White. The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, New Canaan.

Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays (until 8/16) at 2:30pm: Man of La Mancha The musical tells the story of the “mad” knight, Don Quixote, as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Songs such as All the Same, Dulcinea, I’m Only Thinking of Him, The Impossible Dream, I Really Like Him and Little Bird will stay with you long after the curtain closes. $2530. The Gary-The Olivia Theater, Bethlehem.

Saturdays:

Saturdays (until 8/29) from 7:30 – 9pm: Outdoor Concert Join us for the first of five outdoor concerts on the bandstand on Saturday evenings. Dress for the weather. Concert will be performed “weather permitting.” We suggest you bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. New Milford Green, New Milford.

Saturdays (until 8/22) at 8:30: Drive-In Movies Bring your own seating, refreshments and bug spray. River Walk-Veterans’ Memorial Park, Shelton.

Saturdays (until 8/15) at dusk: Family Movie Night Face painting and games from 6 – 8pm. Bring a lawn chair and blanket. Shady Beach, Norwalk.

Sundays:

Sundays (until 8/30) from 5 – 7pm: Summer Concert Series No raindates. Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk.

Sundays (until 8/9) at 6pm: Summer Concerts Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. Municipal Center Lawn, Bethel.

Sundays (until 8/30) from 5 – 8pm: Summer Music Sundays Mystic Seaport is extending the summer weekend experience and will offer complimentary after-hours Museum admission to all Sunday evening visitors in July and August. Stroll through Museum grounds and along the waterfront. Relax with friends while dining outdoors at Schaefer’s Spouter Tavern and listen to live music beginning at 5:30pm. Mystic Seaport, Mystic.

Sundays (until 8/23) from 6 – 8pm: Summer Concert Series Madison Town Green, Madison.

Sundays (until 8/30) from 6 – 8pm: Concert on the Green Series Redding Town Green, Redding.
