Weekly Activities

Below you will find a list of activities that occur on the regular, most are weekly, some are monthly and many are free. Scroll through Sunday!

Mondays:

9:30 – 10:15am: Sing-Along Storytime Play instruments and sing along to classic and contemporary children’s books. The program incorporates music in the early literacy process. Free and open to the community! Ages 0-5. Reoccurs until April 18. JCC of Greater New Haven, Woodbridge.

10 – 10:45am: Nature Nursery Oh the places we’ll go and the animals we’ll meet through the works of Dr. Seuss. Each week we’ll read a book by this beloved author and use it as a fun way to learn about the world of animals which will inspire cool crafts and activities. Chances to meet some animal friends in person. Fee (one child and one adult): members $12 per class; non-members $16 per class. For children ages 2-3 years accompanied by an actively participating adult. No class on January 18 and February 15. Runs until February 22. The Connecticut Audubon Society, Fairfield.

Occurs every two weeks: 6:30 – 7:45pm: Lounge Night at Beth El Israel Kesser Come hangout with other Jewish high schoolers! Free pizza and refreshments. Board games, bring your homework if you want to. Please RVP by email or phone so we know how much pizza to buy. Runs until July 31, Beth El Israel Kesser, New Haven.

Tuesdays:

10 – 11:30am: Storytime at Pottery Barn Kids Join us each week for story time as we read aloud some of your favorite books. Become a book club member and receive a special gift after attending five-story times. Pottery Barn Kids Locations.

10:15 – 11:15am: Free Playgroup Gathering at Firefly Family Yoga in Ridgefield.

10:30 – 11am: Story Lab for Young Explorers This 30 minute program of STEM themed stories, activities, and crafts takes place in the EverWonder classroom. Parents must stay with their children during the program. Program is included with the cost of admission. Story Lab runs until Thursday, January 28th. EverWonder Children’s Museum, Newtown.

11 – 11:45am: Toddler Tour Children ages 3-5 and their adult caregivers are encouraged to come explore the Museum’s collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. The topics will rotate between science and art weekly. This program is included with general admission (general admission is free until 3/13) and no advanced registration is required. Bruce Museum, Greenwich.

11am – 12pm: Sticky Fingers Join us for this toddler cooking class featuring hands-on activities that empower your child to make their own healthy snacks! Ages 0-5. $5 for JCC members and $7 for nonmembers. Runs until April 19. JCC of Greater New Haven, Woodbridge.

11:15am: Storytime followed by a song, craft, or other activity. Jack & Allie’s, Vernon.

2:30 – 2:45 pm: Marine Tank Animal Feeding Every Tuesday, watch and learn as we present a short talk and feed our live fish, crabs, molluscs and other marine animals from Long Island Sound. This program is included with general admission (general admission is free until 3/13). Bruce Museum, Greenwich.

4pm: Storytime Join us every Tuesday after school for a storytime. Free. Barnes & Noble, North Haven.

7pm: A couple times a month AMC hosts a Sensory Friendly Film at 7pm. The program provides a special opportunity for families to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment. The auditoriums dedicated to the program have their lights up, the sound turned down and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing! Details can be found here.

Tuesdays – Sundays:

10am – 5pm: Thanks to a collaboration between the Bruce Museum and Hermès of Paris, general admission will be free from January 10 – March 13, 2016, during regular gallery hours. Doors close 1/2 hour before closing. Bruce Museum, Greenwich.

Wednesdays:

10am: Children’s Storytime Each week we will be reading a variety of stories – some new, some old favorites. Byrd’s Books, Bethel.

10am: Join us for some free Storytime and coloring fun. Each week we read a different selection of stories. Suitable for children ages 1 to 5. Barnes & Noble, Danbury.

10 – 11am: PJ Library’s Music & Me Sing along to Jewish-infused tunes and enjoy a story time including a free yummy snack and juice picnic. Free and open to the community! Ages 0-5. Runs until April 13. JCC of Greater New Haven, Woodbridge.

12 – 1pm: Lunchtime for Parents Parents, are you looking for a way to meet with other parents while also enjoying a chance to eat your lunch? Drop-by our office every Wednesday for a chance to socialize and eat lunch with other parents while your little one participates in supervised fun and safe activities at the same time. Please bring your own lunch. This is a free drop-in program. Newtown Youth & Family Services, Sandy Hook.

2:30pm: Zumba Kids Join our fitness party as you dance your way to a healthy future! Included with the cost of museum admission. Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Norwalk.

Thursdays:

10 – 11am: Shabba-Tots Experience Shabbat and learn Jewish traditions with challah baking, a PJ Library story and Jewish-infused sing-alongs. $5 for JCC members and $7 for nonmembers. Ages 0-5. Runs until April 14. JCC of Greater New Haven, Woodbridge.

2 – 6pm: Family Movies Series Don’t miss out on our family movies every Thursday and Sunday in the JCC Living Room! We have a great lineup of flicks and free popcorn, so just drop in and watch with your friends and family. This event is free and open to the community. Click here for a full movie listing. 1st Thursday from 5 – 8pm: Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk offers an evening of free admission and fun on the first Thursday of every month.

2nd Thursday from 4 – 5pm: White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield offers an hour-long program designed just for your young nature lovers. Every session will include a story, an encounter with a live animal, and an activity or craft. Bring your kids out to White Memorial for a jam-packed hour of hands-on learning. Parents, we ask that you stay for the duration of the program. Advanced registration is required. Non-Members: $12 per child per session.

Fridays:

8:50 – 9:50 pm: Disco Skate Every Friday night through May; the lights, the disco, the fun! $10, Skate Rental $4. Winter Garden Arena, Ridgefield.

1st Friday of the month Gymnastic Spectrum hosts a family night in from 6:30 pm -8:30 pm. The other Fridays they host a Parents Night Out and always have a special theme for the last Friday. Click here for details.

4th Friday of the month The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum from September through June, home-schoolers explore a new technique inspired by the work on view. Sign up for just one or all the sessions! For ages 6 to 10. Click here for details.

Fridays – Saturdays:

7:30pm: The Ghost Walk Tour Each tour is 90 minutes long, total walking distance is less than a mile, covered at a very leisurely pace so that you can enjoy the mysterious atmosphere and haunted locations. We have many different tours to choose from. We conduct our tours with great respect for the, “out of body people”. After all they are no different from us – they are free of the physical world. We are positive that our tours will enchant, entertain, inform, and scare you.

Saturdays:

10am – 12pm: Indoor Farmer’s Market in Westport.

10am – 12pm: Most Saturday’s, Michaels offers $2 crafts for kids from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. For $2 your child can enjoy 30 minutes of crafts with an instructor while you get a chance to browse and shop the store. Click here for details.

10am – 1pm: Indoor Farm-Fresh Market Litchfield Community Center, Litchfield.

10am – 1pm: Winter Farmer’s Market Runs until March 26. Metropolitan Business Academy, New Haven.

11am – 3pm: Every Saturday Lakeshore Learning center offers free crafts for children ages 3 and up. Each week a new craft is featured. Click here for details. Free. Lakeshore Learning Center, Hamden.

1st Saturday of the month Home Depot hosts a free Kids Workshop at 9am for kids ages 5-12. Details can be found here.

Once or twice a month Lowe’s Home Improvement offers a free Build and Grow Clinic at 10am. Bring the kids to your local Lowe’s to build a wooden project they can keep. However space is limited so register your child online. Details can be found here.

Select Saturdays from 2 – 4pm: Ellington Farmer’s Market Runs January 23, February 6 and 20, March 5 and 19. YMCA, Ellington.

Select Saturdays from 3 – 5pm: Storrs Winter Farmers Market Runs January 16 and 30, February 13 and 27, March 12 and 26 and April 9 – 23. Mansfield Public Library, Mansfield Center.

Sundays:

11am – 2pm: Coventry Winter Farmer’s Market Runs until March 13. Coventry High School, Coventry.

11:30am – 12:30pm: Family Gallery Tour For children ages 6-10 and families. A Museum educator will lead an interactive, discussion-based tour of the Museum’s current exhibitions. Included with general admission (admission is free until 3/13). No reservations. Bruce Museum, Greenwich.

12 – 4pm: Sunday Explorers Our popular Sunday drop-in programs return January 17 through February 29. Join us for hikes, field studies, live animal visits, garden experiences, and crafts as we explore all the best things about the seasons. Information on specific themes is available at the Overbrook Nature Center. Schedule of Events: Noon – 4pm Self-guided crafts & open classroom, 12:30pm Trail Hike, 2:30pm Garden or farm experience, 3:30pm Animal Meet & Greet. Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Stamford.

1st Sundays from 1 – 4pm: Free 1st Sundays We are open to the public every first Sunday of the month free of charge. New Haven Museum, New Haven.

2nd Sunday of every month is Community Free Day and the Museum welcomes the community to explore the museum and participate in a family activity for free. Children (6-12) and their adult caregivers are invited to explore the Museum with a museum educator and then bring their imagination to the Studio. Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury.
